Phlebotomy Training - How To Not Get Ripped Off

Why Phlebotomy Is The Best Choice For You
Have you ever jumped into something and later regretted your decision? This pattern is repeated more times than you can imagine everyday because most people move on impulse and fail to do their due diligence through research.
The health field is one of the few fields left in the world that is actually growing. Entering the heath field can be a gratifying and fulfilling experience.
Becoming A Phlebotomist - Trial and Error
  • Phlebotomy is a cheaper alternative for entering the health field.
  • Great entry-level opportunity to test if you can handle working in a healthcare environment.
  • Room to grow - teaches essential skills that won't be wasted like many of the classes in education today.
  • Networking - inexpensive way to find mentors that can guide you in making the right choices
Distinguishing The Good Schools From The Bad
Unfortunately in these times you have to be extremely careful in picking your phlebotomy school. There are many schools that are not accredited or respected by local hospitals and doctors offices.
How To Protect Yourself
  • Make a list of schools that you are interested in and find out about price, accreditation, and job placement.
  • Thoroughly interview each school asking specifics of how long they have existed, their graduation rate, and the percentage of graduates that found work in the 1st year.
(Be Careful - Their statistics may not give you the whole truth. They may say 90% of their graduates find work within the 1st year, however, that work could have nothing to do with phlebotomy and still make that statement factual).
  • Contact graduates of that school and ask them questions on how they feel about their education from that particular school.
  • Contact the HR of local hospitals and doctors offices and find out if they hire applicants from your school choices.
  • Compare prices and time-frames. You may be missing out on a good education if you choose a school you can finish within a few months.
  • Validate that you will be receiving your phlebotomy certification after completion of your school and the exam.
  • Have A Plan B - All the research in the world can't prepare you for being in the actual situation. If something goes wrong before, during, or after school, have some backup plans on how you will handle it.
